The Ups and Downs of Summer Holidays
The Summer Holidays are highly anticipated by many throughout the entire school term, they are talked about endlessly and plans of what shall be done during them are discussed as the months grow gradually warmer.I personally love them summer holidays and see it as a time of relaxation, fun and more relaxation. Although such a long break is certainly questionable. Are the Summer Holidays much too long to be of any use? Or are they essential to ensure that we are well prepared and rested for the upcoming academic year? This post reviews both the highs and lows of the Summer. So are you for or against these six weeks of so called bliss?
The Ups
During the school term, I find that I rarely have a second to spare. Studying and homework take up so many precious minutes of the day, it is actually quite frustrating! School is a big part of life, and do not get me wrong, I treasure my education and want to excel in all that I do yet a break is something that I long for on those days that stress rules. The Summer Holiday provides you with days upon days of free time, that you can choose how to fill any way that you wish. You have control of what you're days consist of be it hours stretched out on the sofa watching the TV, or the time to get out with friends and family.
Without the summer in place I think we really would go insane! Imagine continuously having to work without with nothing but the incredibly brief weekend as a break? The Summer allows time to unwind, to experience new things and to go for weeks without worrying about assignments or anything else school related for that matter!
The Downs
The School Term is certainly jam-packed with events, homework and the sort that keep you're mind occupied and you on your toes.We see the summer as an escape from such hard work, a time to forget about all that we have been taught and the oppurtunity to leave our books in the dust. I can honestly say that despite wanting to keep working and to keep my mind in a "school-like" state, I immediately want to disregard the school year and welcome in days of fun, fun fun! So when school finally does roll around once more, which we both dread yet also look forward to, it is fair to say we are switched off and groggy. Being thrown straight back into the very active curriculum is too much for our "summer lazy" brains to take and at first we struggle to re-adapt. Are the summer holidays detrimental? Too long for our own good?
To finish up....
The Summer is both a good yet also a bad thing. We are so excited to finally have time off that we forget we will eventually have to return to school and resume working hard. So for those of you who have recently plunged back into your busy school lives, I wish you the best of luck this year - stay afloat. Yet if you are like me, and are situated at the edge of the diving board, about to take that leap into the academic year well...don't look down!
Remember these are Beaux Jours!
